Alfie Morland Bridge, Hemel Hempstead
There is a new pedestrian bridge being built in the new Image Development in Hemel Hempstead that is going to be called the Alfie Morland bridge. Brett Leahy who is a friend of Lucy and Rob is the Planning Adviser for the local council for this development and due to his involvement in the project was given the rights for naming the bridge and has decided to name it in honour of Alfie which is fantastic. It is not just a normal bridge but a single span cable stay bridge that will become a feature of the new development. It will go across the Leighton Buzzard road with a span of 39m. There will be a large suspension mast that will be 21m high, the footbridge will be suspended from this mast using galvanised steel cables. There will be a plaque made mid span to be mounted on the bridge stating 'Dedicated to Alfie Morland 2007'.
The bridge is still in the design stages and construction will not be complete to 2009. We will keep you posted with the progress of the bridge, but hopefully it will generate a lot of interest for the Samantha Dickson Trust.

Race for Life - Cancer Research, July 07
Just over 2,500 women took part in the first Race for Life to be held at Newark Showground. That one event is expected to raise about 150,000 pounds for Cancer Research UK and will be added to money raised at similar events throughout the country which it is hoped will total GBP 60M this year. Three members of one family across 3 generations ran the distance (5km) and completed it in 23 minutes. Marian Green, her daughter Kate Fisher and granddaughter Anna Fisher wanted to take part because they all knew somebody who had cancer. Marian Green ran for Alfie Morland who died when he was 5 1/2 months old and is the grandson of a friend.

Our thanks would also like to go to Jenny Breedon who also ran the race for life with Alfie's name on her back.
