Alfie's Life

Alfie Jack Morland
9th January - 25th June 2007

Alfie was five and a half months old when he was diagnosed with a tumour in the posterior fossa part of his brain. As the tumour was attached to the brainstem, it was inoperable, and doctors informed us he only had weeks to live. The tumour was growing so fast that he died a week later on the 25th June 2007.

Alfie’s short life was full of happiness and friends. He bought endless amounts of joy to all that met him, with his big smile, bright blue eyes and mop of spikey hair. He touched the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. He had already captured the hearts of the local Redbourn baby girls at the morning socials, shopping trips and cross country walks.

Members of the family were already staking a claim to the sport that he would excel at and which team he would support. Would it be Arsenal, to his uncle’s delight or would he prefer rugby like his dad. Of course there was always the question would it be a white or green rugby shirt that he would show his allegiance to?

Although he was only five and a half months old, he had already managed to travel overseas and experience the warm climate of the Middle East and cover many miles in the UK between friends and family.

Despite the fact that Alfie had a terminal illness, he was able to live a normal life until the two weeks prior to his death.

We have decided to set up an umbrella fund in his name under the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour trust. As parents whose lives have been so cruelly affected by this disease, we feel strongly that there needs to be continued research into the cause and to assist in finding a cure for this tragic illness. For any one who would like to make a donation to his fund or learn more about the trust please go the link for the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumor Trust on this website.
